Cake Smash FAQ

What should I bring?
You are only responsible for bringing your child's outfits and the cake. Due to potential allergies, I find it is safest for parents to supply this. I will have everything else that you need!
It may also be helpful to bring a spare set of clothing for your baby in case they get messy!
How long is the session?
Your session will be booked out for 2 hours in case breaks are needed. There will be about 20 minutes of shooting in each outfit. A typical session will take around an hour and fifteen minutes.
How do I pick a look?
Let's start simple! Do you have a color scheme you like? Will your child's first birthday have a theme? Let's chat and we can figure it out together! I suggest doing some digging to find styles you like best :)
What is your cancellation policy?
Any session cancelled with less than 48 hours notice forfeits your deposit. This is mainly due to setup time that was wasted or needed to be redone. You will then need to pay a new fee to book a new date and time.
Any session that is cancelled without rebooking a new date forfeits the initial deposit.
In the case of sickness or other elements out of your control, there will be no rebooking fee as long as there is 48 hour notice.
How many photos will I receive?
I am a big believer in the fact that the photos I take are as much yours as they are mine. Because of that, you will receive ALL of the photos that I take edited in Lightroom (aside from the obvious camera misfires and odd shots) Cake Smash sessions come with an additional 10 photos that you are allowed to have photoshopped upon request to take away any unwanted flyaways or perfect in other ways that you feel necessary. Truly this is not common, as 99% of my clients enjoy their albums as is, free from photoshop needs! Anything beyond 10 additional photos is $15 per image.
When should I book?
Sessions should take place when your child is 11 months old.
Depending on the time of year, I typically require bookings two months in advance. If you have a child with a birthday between October-January I would need 4-5 months as this is during studio Christmas setups.
Additionally, keep in mind your child's sleeping schedule. We want to shoot at a time of day that will bring the most smiles :)
Can other family members be in the photos?
Primarily, cake smashes are meant for just the one year old. With this in mind, the setup is made to fit a small child. However, I will never stop a sibling from jumping into a picture or two! As far as parents or other adults go, you are welcome to try to squeeze in for one, however the set is not meant to accommodate this and therefore your whole body may not be visible.
What time should I arrive for my scheduled session?
Right on time :) A late arrival takes away time from your scheduled slot, especially if there is another shoot after you.
What if my child doesn't like the cake?
Sometimes babies have a poor reaction to touching frosting for the first time. Therefore, if you have a child who bothered by certain textures, I suggest introducing a food with a similar texture prior to the session. Otherwise, I suggest bringing puffs or their favorite snack to hide behind the cake to make it look like they are still eating it even if they are not!
How will I receive my photos
All photos are delivered through an online gallery that is password protected. You are able to then download these photos and use them as you wish.
How messy is this going to get?
I have seen both extremes! I will have plenty of paper towels and wipes on standby. I do suggest that parents wears something they do not mind getting dirty as it is very common for frosting to travel!
How does payment work?
There will be a 30% deposit required when booking to secure your date, time, and purchase needed supplies for your session. The remaining payment is due the day of your session, as photos will not be delivered until it is received. Please see my cancellation policy for further information.
Payment can be made with cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle.
